How Much Does Scanability Cost?

Written by Leyla Shokoohe | Jul 31, 2024 3:41:14 PM

The modern manufacturer depends on barcode scanning to keep inventory in line and the warehouse in order. Part of the supply chain process calls for using barcode scanning solutions to get that inventory where it needs to go – fulfilling orders, keeping retailers stocked, and maintaining customer satisfaction.

Plenty of barcode scanning solutions exist, but not all of them deliver the same efficiency, performance or results. ERP Suites Scanability is the exception to the rule. This barcode scanning solution is the only one designed explicitly for JD Edwards. By using Orchestrations within JD Edwards, Scanability bypasses the need for a third-party, allowing the client to capitalize on the full breadth and scope of their data, and the investment in its ERP system. As such, Scanability delivers a low cost of ownership, making it accessible for users in all fields.

In this article, we’ll cover the cost factors of utilizing ERP Suites Scanability, including:

  • Hardware
  • Software
  • Licensing, and
  • Managed Services.

What is Scanability

First things first: What is Scanability? This is ERP Suites’ proprietary barcode scanning solution, developed with the JD Edwards user in mind. Scanability is directly architected for JD Edwards, harnessing the power of Enterprise One and Orchestrations to make your front-end experience as seamless as possible. Thanks to this JD Edwards integration, you won’t find yourself spending time and money upgrading and rewriting custom scripts.

Scanability uses your pre-existing JD Edwards ERP system, saving you money from the get-go because you don’t need to purchase additional servers or other infrastructure. This integration not only saves money, but also ensures that your product information is instantly usable within JDE. Scanability is also versatile, working with mobile or fixed scanners, too, so your team can efficiently navigate the warehouse and manage inventory with ease.

Scanability Cost Factors

A variety of factors influence the cost total of Scanability. It is important to reiterate that every business is unique and therefore has unique needs, but these are the primary factors that will influence that total cost for your small, midsize or large business, based on these criteria: servers, subscription, implementation, and advisory and support.

A few notes: scanners are not included in the chart because scanner selection is wholly up to the business. Most Scanability customers use their existing AIS server, but space comes into play, as we cover further down in the blog. Subscription cost is tiered and based on user count. Implementation is based on the number of flows and any personalizations. Advisory and support are included.

Hardware

When implementing any barcode scanning solution, not just Scanability, hardware is a cost factor taken into consideration. These kinds of solutions necessitate some form of hardware, so the user is already aware of and prepared to spend money on compatible hardware for whichever barcode scanning solution they select.

Scanners, Scan Guns and Handheld Devices

Scanability can be run on any Android device, be it your floor manager’s cell phone or preexisting Android scan guns. You can also run Scanability on Windows, for situations where laptop cameras are utilized. Again, hardware is an external cost factor, not affiliated with Scanability directly. If you’re implementing a barcode scanning solution, this cost should already be built into your budget.

The cost of scan guns can vary greatly, ranging from a couple hundred dollars per scanner to several thousand dollars for highly specialized equipment. The hardware you select will depend on your needs. Zebra is a popular model, as is Chainway.

Servers

Say a JDE customer is currently not using any scanners, or maybe they’re using other barcode vendors. They’re not necessarily using JD Edwards’ Orchestrations for the barcode scanning solution capabilities. Or maybe, with their current workload, their AIS server is taxed and nearly at capacity – there is no room for adding an additional capability like ERP Suites Scanability.

In these scenarios, an additional server may be necessary. This situation might exist for some users, but not for all. If another server is required, this can run you $500 to $800 for an additional server per month.

Software

To use Scanability, one must have the necessary software to make it work. Since Scanability is directly architected with JD Edwards, the user or client will already have JD Edwards. You’ll need to be sure you’re operating at the optimal release level of JD Edwards (9.2.5.6+) to guarantee compatibility and efficiency.

Licensing and Subscription Fees

A Scanability subscription fee features tiered pricing based on user count for each respective business. With the annual Scanability subscription, covered features for users will include patching, customer support, and ongoing, continuous improvement.

The subscription fee takes the guess work out of utilizing this barcode scanning solution. The pricing tiers are designated in groups of 25. If you have 20 users, you fall within the first tier of Scanability pricing, and can comfortably add up to five more users. If you’re right at 25 users, any additional user will land you in the second pricing tier. Pricing will vary for companies of varying sizes.

The client will also incur a one-time implementation fee, in order to set up all the Scanability workflows in your specific environment. Scanability has a library of flows that have been built out over time, known as standard flows. If a client requires a new flow with some level of personalization, there will be a subsequent charge.

Flow personalization occurs when a company needs to recode their process in an orchestration because it differs from the existing standard flow. There are processing options behind each of these flows.

Because Scanability works seamlessly with JD Edwards the flow library also works. In particular, cycle count and license plating are made more effective thanks to the use of orchestrations that is the bread and butter of Scanability. Orchestrations really does make integration easier than you ever thought possible. We don’t need to make any recommendations for third-party vendors, nor do we need to deal with the intricacies of third-party integration.
