How to resolve an ORA-03113 alert

Shadow processes are client processes managed by the Oracle database. If they experience any communication issues, Clarity sends an Error – ORA-03113 alert. ORA-03113 is known as an "end of file on communication channel," but that isn't enough to indicate the cause. Some possible issues include:

  • Your server machine crashed.
  • Your server process was killed at the O/S level.
  • There are network problems.
  • There are Oracle internal errors (ORA-600/ORA-7445).
  • The client is incorrectly handling multiple connections.

When an ORA-03113 occurs, it usually requires detailed troubleshooting: 

  1. Follow the steps outlined in Doc ID 1506805.1 to get to the root of this issue. 
  2. Then, open a service request with Oracle to determine an exact solution.
